The Hayner Hoyt Corporation to Offer Utica University Construction Management Scholarship
Utica University’s construction management program combines foundational study in management techniques with extensive real-world learning opportunities. With a 100 percent job placement rate and a base pay of $60,000, graduates can look forward to years of success.
Jeremy Thurston, president of The Hayner Hoyt Corporation, and Dr. Laura Casamento, Utica University president, announced the establishment of an endowed scholarship exclusively for Utica University construction management students.
The Hayner Hoyt Corporation Construction Management Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time matriculated student planning to major in construction management. The student must be in good standing with a grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to female students and those recognized as historically under-represented. Students may apply in their first full year of study, and the $5,000 annual scholarship will be renewable.
Thurston, a 2000 graduate of Utica University and chair-elect of its board of trustees, hopes this opportunity will allow for the field to grow more diverse.
“The construction industry has long struggled with diversity, and we want to help rectify that,” Thurston said.
Construction management is an exciting and rewarding field that provides so much room for growth, promotion and opportunity, said Audrey Cross, assistant professor of construction management.
“As a woman in the industry, I loved it,” said Cross. “The everyday juggling of a thousand moving pieces and then watching something on paper become reality is truly amazing. There’s also a strong sense of pride involved, when you drive by a building and are able to say you helped construct it.”
Founded in 1966, The Hayner Hoyt Corporation is a commercial construction company dedicated to both unparalleled customer service and giving back to local communities. The company’s work experience includes many different industries, such as healthcare, higher education and entertainment, among others.
Hayner Hoyt recently placed third on the annual list of the 2021 Best Companies to Work for in New York, out of 72 companies. The company has been selected for this award again in 2022, marking the 15th consecutive year it has made this prestigious list.
Projects completed as of late include most notably the Syracuse University Dome roof replacement, the Science Center at Utica University, as well as various projects at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.
